How very, very sad. I just found out today that the wonderful service del.icio.us has been bought out by Yahoo. We’re one painful step closer to an internet dominated by corporate mega nodes. I can’t think of one service that has matured into a better version of itself after it was taken over by a corporate heavyweight. I used to love going to www.cdnow.com to browse CDs and look for new unknowns until Amazon bought them out. Geocities used to have very lofty goals of having a unique massive virtual community. It had its flaws in the early days but once Yahoo bought it out, it definitely fell from grace.
Well, Blogger is certainly better than Blog*Spot, Google Analytics (formerly Urchin) is now an amazing free tool, and Picasa seems okay. Maybe Google will come out with a del.icio.us-like service.
Another one bites the dust I guess. Time to look for a new tagging service. Furl anyone? I see that Google personal search has a bookmark tool.
